Les Etats-Unis s’adjugent la troisième place face à l’Angleterre
Ce sont les Américains qui frappent les premiers. Retenu dans la surface par Hause (ENG, 15), Kiesewetter (USA, 17) obtient un pénalty. Hernandez (USA, 11) prend le portier à contre pied. Les Américains ne gardent cet avantage que quelques minutes. Sur un coup franc joué rapidement, Swift (ENG, 17) s’infiltre dans la surface. Son centre en retrait trouve Hause (ENG, 15) qui pousse le ballon au fond. La suite du match est beaucoup moins emballante. La partie se résume à une bataille au milieu du terrain. Les occasions sont rares, hormis quelques frappes lointaines non cadrées.
Le deuxième acte démarre fort. Pickford (ENG, 13), entré en jeu à la pause, et Cropper (USA, 1) doivent s’employer à plusieurs reprise. Et quand ce n’est pas le gardien qui est à la parade, c’est le poteau qui vient sauver les Américains sur une tête de Cargill (ENG, 6). Le match est équilibré, mais juste après l’heure de jeu, les USA obtiennent un nouveau pénalty. Joya (USA, 8), en bon capitaine, se charge de le tirer et trouve la lucarne.
Les Etats-Unis mènent mais les Anglais n’abdiquent pas. Il faut un énorme Cropper (USA, 1) pour que les partenaires de Swift (ENG, 17) ne reviennent pas au score. Les Américains tiennent bon jusqu’au coup de sifflet final. La troupe d’Andy Herzog s’adjuge la troisième place. Les Anglais doivent se contenter de la médaille en chocolat …

USA win the third place play-off against England
The beginning of the game is not very lively but two goals are scored in ten minutes. USA take the lead early : Hause (ENG, 15) trips Kieswetter (USA, 17) in the box and USA get a penalty. Hernandez (USA, 11) scores it and puts USA ahead. Few minutes later, England equalise thanks to Hause (ENG, 15) who netted after a beautiful work on the left wing from Swift (ENG, 17).
Then, the two teams struggle to create chances except some shots from distance but they’re not dangerous.
The second half is livelier than the first. Just before the hour mark, Cargill (ENG, 6) hit the post. The « Three Lions » will regret this lack of efficiency as USA take the lead again. Joya (USA, 8) puts his team ahead with a penalty after 66 minutes.
After that, England threaten again USA but the Swift’s (ENG, 17) effort is parried away by Cropper (USA, 1). The score will not change and the USA win this third place play-off.
