15 March 2016
Many countries have already secured a trip to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. However, some national teams are still battling it out for the last available spots. That’s indeed the case of United States and Colombia.
The two teams will play a home-and-away series to try to grab a ticket for the Olympics : the first leg is scheduled for March 25 in Colombia and the second leg is set for March 29 in United States. We are focusing on this playoff because many former Toulon Tournament players will be involved in these games.
Colombia have released their roster for this playoff. Among the headliners we found Helibelton Palacios and Andres Yair Renteria (Toulon Tournament 2013), two players who have already earned senior team call-ups. On the other side, players like Jordan Morris and Julian Green (Toulon Tournament 2015) who have also received senior team call-ups are expected to be in the USA squad.
It should be noted that the last time USA qualified for the Olympics was in 2008 while Colombia last played in the Olympics in 1992
