While they were set to play the first Copa Sudamericana final of their history, Brazilian side Chapecoense were devastated on 28th November by an airplane crash in Colombia. The accident killed 71 people while 6 were injured. Among the victims, was 21-year-old Matheus Biteco.
Biteco has represented Brazil at the youth level and was part of the Brazil team that won the Toulon Tournament 2013. He has helped the Seleçao to win the Festival International Espoirs as he has started 4 games during the competition. Throughout his career, the Brazilian midfielder has played for Gremio, Chapecoense as well as for Hoffenheim (Germany).
The thoughts of everyone at Festival International Espoirs are with Chapecoense Football Club and all those affected by the tragedy in Colombia.
