After three weeks of competition, the CONCACAF U20 ended with the victory of United States as they beat Honduras (0-0, 5-3 pen) during the final.
United States meet Honduras in the CONCACAF U20 final on this Sunday. United States have had the best chance to score during the normal time : the free-kick fired by Brooks Lennon was deflected brilliantly by the Honduran goalkeeper Javier Delgado after 27 minutes. Except this chance, both teams struggled to shine offensively. This final was eventually decided by a penalty shootout and United States won 5-3 on penalties.
Besides the collective trophy, some American players were rewarded individually : the defensive midfielder Erik Palmer-Brown was named best player of the tournament while Jonathan Klinsmann clinched the best goalkeeper award.
Best player : Erik Palmer-Brown (USA – Sporting Kansas City)
Top scorer : Ronaldo Cisneros (Mexico – Santos Laguna), 6 goals
Best goalkeeper : Jonathan Klinsmann (USA – University of California)
Nations qualified for the World Cup U20 : USA, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica.
