Rated as one of the best talents of Mexico, Diego Reyes has needed a period of adaptation before to cope with the rigours of European football. FC Porto signed him in 2013 from Club America but the 24-year-old centre-back has spent two difficult seasons with the Portuguese side. However, the Toulon Tournament 2012 winner got his career back on track thanks to his two successive loan spells in Spain.
After a convincing 2015-2016 campaign with Real Sociedad (27 games played in La Liga, 2 goals), Reyes has confirmed his resurgence this season with Espanyol Barcelona. The Ciudad de Mexico-born has emerged as one of the key players of the Catalan club, having already played 24 league games this season.
Meanwhile, the Mexico international (41 caps, 1 goal) is shining with his national team as he has scored his first international goal this week against Trinidad-and-Tobago (1-0) in a World Cup 2018 qualifier.
