Against all the odds, Girondins de Bordeaux are currently sitting in the third spot of the French Ligue 1. Theo Pellenard, runner-up of the Toulon Tournament 2014, has benefited from this stunning start to the season to cement his place in the starting eleven.
The 23-year-old defender has started all the 7 league games played by his side. This new status illustrates the remarkable progress made by the Bordeaux youth academy over the last seasons. Before breaking into the Bordeaux first-team, Pellenard has played for the reserve team and was also loaned out to the Ligue 2 side Paris FC in the 2015-2016 season.
After a string of convincing performances, Pellenard seems to have convinced his coach Jocelyn Gourvennec. “For now, Théo established himself as the starting left-back. […] Théo, who is learning quickly, will earn more confidence in the upcoming months”, the Bordeaux coach said recently in a press conference.
