In 2014, Davinson Sanchez was playing the Toulon Tournament. At that moment, the solid Colombian defender was seeking regular first team football at the Colombian side Atletico Nacional. Few years later, the 21-year-old’s status has changed as he became one of the most expensive defenders ever.
Convinced by his fine performances with Ajax Amsterdam, Tottenham have decided to sign the Colombia international (5 caps) this summer in a club-record €40 million deal.
Despite the transfer fee pressure, the Copa Libertadores 2016 winner has quickly met the expectations in Premier League as well as in the Champion’s League. The Colombian defender has already played 9 games in all competitions this season and he proved that he’s a good addition to the Tottenham back three thanks to his physical abilities and his reading of the game. Until now, Spurs haven’t lost a single game this season when Sanchez was on the pitch…
When the Colombian rock joined Tottenham on August, his coach Maurico Pochettino has suggested that Sanchez could develop into one of the best defenders in the world.
"When we knew about the possibility to sign him, it was a massive opportunity because we believe he will be one of the best centre-backs in the world in the future. That is why we made the effort to try to sign him"
"He's young but with an amazing history and background. I like his personality and how he is aggressive, he is fast. He will fit for us very well”, said the Argentinian manager.
After enjoying after a promising start to life at Tottenham, Sanchez has now to prove that he can step up to the next level.
