The Sampdoria striker Duvan Zapata, signed this summer from Napoli, has lived up to expectations. After a convincing 206-2017 campaign on loan at Udinese (10 goals in 38 Serie A games), the 26-year-old is continuing his prolific form this season.
The Colombian hit the headlines in first appearance with Sampdoria as he netted a goal against Torino (2-2) after only…18 seconds ! This is still the fastest goal scored in the Italian top-flight this season.
The Toulon Tournament 2011 winner has adapted quickly to his new team as he has scored 4 goals and delivered 1 assist in 8 league games until now. His performances with Sampdoria allowed him to burst onto the international scene. Only few months after earning his first international appearance, Zapata has made his first Colombia start on October during the World Cup 2018 qualifier played against Peru (1-1).
The Colombia international’s display impressed the observers as well as his head coach José Pekerman who selected him again for the upcoming friendlies against South Korea (November 10) and China (November 14).
After years of waiting, Zapata seems now to have a real chance to cement his place in the Colombia national team.
