After a successful spell in England (at both Arsenal and Manchester City) where he has clinched three Premier League titles, Gaël Clichy has decided to join this summer Istanbul Basaksehir, one of the emerging clubs in Turkey.
That was obviously a wise decision from the Toulon Tournament 2004 winner : Istanbul Basaksehir are currently at the top of the Süper Lig table after 16 games above big clubs like Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray and Beskitas. Meanwhile, the 32-year-old left-back seems to have adapted quickly to his new club as he has delivered four assists since the start to the season. No defender has managed more assists in the Süper Lig this season so far.
Founded in 1990 only, Istanbul Basaksehir have invested mainly in experienced players like the France international to try to clinch titles. If they keep the momentum going, the Turkish club could reap the rewards of their strategy at the end of the season.
