Three years after their last appearance, the Qataris are back in the south of France. The Asian nation will take part in the upcoming Toulon Tournament which will be held from 26th May to 9th June 2018.
A number of local talents distinguished themselves during the four appearances made by the Qatari national team so far. We can talk about Hassan Al-Haydos who scored three goals during the Toulon Tournament 2010 before establishing himself as one of the country’s best players. At only 27, Al-Haydos has already earned 87 international caps with the Qatar senior team and scored 21 goals.
Most recently, Akram Afif has impressed during the Toulon Tounament 2014. Few years later, he became the first Qatari to play in the Spanish Liga.
As a reminder, the Toulon Tournament 2018 will feature 12 teams placed in 3 four-team groups. The three top teams of each group as well as the best second placed team (of all the groups) will advance to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the other teams will play another game to determine their final ranking in the competition.
Except Qatar, ten teams have already confirmed their presence at the upcoming Festival : Turkey, Togo, Japan, France, South Korea, England, Canada, Portugal, China and Mexico. The last participating team will be unveiled soon…
