Le coup parfait. Dominés une grande partie du match, les Turcs ont renversé le match grâce à deux erreurs nippones et à un doublé de Mucahit Can Akcay. Avec cette victoire (2-1), la Turquie se place seule en tête du groupe C après le match nul (0-0) entre le Canada et le Portugal. Pour le Japon, la victoire sera impérative dès le prochain match sous peine d’élimination dès la phase de poules. Une situation qu’il avait déjà connue l’année précédente.
