“My agent knows I want to go to Germany, England or Spain and is working on that”, said Santiago Arias during the summer 2017. One year later, his desire to play in one of the best leagues in the world has been fulfilled.
After five years spent at PSV Eindhoven, Arias has joined Atletico Madrid on a five-year-deal.
The Colchoneros have decided to lure the 26-year-old right-back after being impressed by his displays in the Eredivisie. The Medellin-born has probably enjoyed the best campaign in his career last season : he netted three goals, delivered six assists and helped PSV to clinch the Dutch league title. Meanwhile, the Maurice Revello Tournament 2011 winner has also won the Eredivisie Player of the Season award.
Except his solid experience with PSV, Arias established himself as a key player for the Colombian national team as he earned 45 international caps. He notably took part in the World Cup 2018 with Los Cafeteros.
At Atletico Madrid, Arias will play alongside three other players who competed as well in the Maurice Revello Tournament : Filipe Luis, Thomas Lemar, Kévin Gameiro.
