Olise, Tavares, Nmecha… the Maurice Revello Tournament graduates animate the transfer market
While the kick-off of the 2021-2022 campaign is imminent, clubs are continuing to strengthen their squad. Among the moves registered over the last days, several of them have involved Maurice Revello Tournament graduates.
If football fans have been focused on the several international competitions played this summer, clubs are working behind the scenes to reinforce their squad ahead of the 2021-2022 which is fast approaching.
Some squads have opted for a youth policy like Crystal Palace and their new coach Patrick Vieira. The Eagles bet on two sensations of the Championship last season : Michael Olise and Marc Guéhi who both played the Maurice Revello Tournament 2019. Olise has been signed from Reading in a €9M-deal while Guehi has been recruited from Chelsea in a €21M-move.

Renowned for their ability to develop young players, Arsenal has signed Nuno Tavares, another Maurice Revello Tournament 2019 graduate. The 21-year-old fullback joined the Gunners in a €8M-deal excluding bonuses. Meanwhile in the Premier League, Everton has repatriated Demarai Gray (Tournament 2015) who spent the last months on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

If some players joined the Premier League, some of them have decided to leave the English top-flight as did Rui Patricio (Tournament 2009). After impressing at Wolverhampton, the Portugal goalkeeper (97 caps) has joined AS Roma. Wolves decided to replace him by another Portuguese keeper : José Sa (Tournament 2013) from Olympiakos.

Another eye-catching move over the last days : Lukas Nmecha (Tournament 2018) from Manchester City to Wolfsburg. The winner and top scorer of the last U21 Euro has returned to Wolfsburg (he was loaned out to the German side in 2019-2020-). The Bundesliga side spent around €8M to lure the German football’s rising star.

Another return : the experienced striker Kévin Gameiro (Tournament 2007) who returned to Strasbourg, the club of his debut, from Valencia. A club that Omar Alderete (Tournament 2016) has joined this summer after representing Paraguay at the Copa America.

Two other moves made the headlines : Joao Mario (Tournament 2013) who joined Benfica while he started his career with rivals Sporting Lisbon. Meanwhile, Steven Berghuis (Tournament 2012) who became a fan favourite at Feyenoord over the last seasons, will continue his career at Ajax Amsterdam, the Dutch champions and rivals of the Rotterdam-based club.
