Après le Chili emmené par Eduardo Vargas, c’est au tour d’une autre formation sud-américaine d’accéder au second tour de la Coupe du Monde. La Colombie a obtenu une victoire synonyme de qualification face à la Côte d’Ivoire (2-1).
L’homme du match n’a été autre que James Rodriguez, meilleur joueur du Festival International Espoirs en 2011. Le milieu offensif colombien a ouvert le score d’une tête sur corner.Hormis James Rodriguez, d’autres joueurs passés par le tournoi ont pris part à la rencontre face à la Côte d’Ivoire : Cristian Zapata, Pablo Armero, Abel Aguilar ainsi que Santiago Arias.
