Le Mexique a obtenu sa qualification en venant brillamment à bout de la Croatie (3-1). Si la « Tri » accède aux huitièmes de finale, elle le doit en partie à son milieu de terrain, Hector Herrera. Le meilleur joueur du Festival International Espoirs en 2012, est assurément, avec Guillermo Ochoa (un autre joueur passé par le tournoi), le joueur-clé du Mexique dans ce Mondial.
