Lors de la première journée de la Ligue des Champions, deux anciens joueurs passés par le Festival International Espoirs se sont particulièrement distingués.
Le premier est Yacine Brahimi (France – 2010). Pour ses débuts dans cette compétition, l’international algérien de Porto a tout simplement marqué un triplé face au Bate Borisov (6-0). Yacine Brahimi a montré l’étendue de son talent notamment sur le second but où il a transpercé toute la défense adverse. Il conclura ensuite son festival par un superbe coup franc.
Le second joueur à avoir vraiment brillé est Gervinho (Côte d’Ivoire – 2007). L’attaquant de l’AS Roma a enchanté les supporters romains en inscrivant deux buts et en réalisant une passe décisive lors de la victoire des Giallorossi face au CSKA Moscou (5-1).
Dans les autres rencontres, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Pays-Bas – 2001) a marqué le but de l’égalisation pour Schalke 04 face à Chelsea (1-1). De son côté, Dennis Praet (Belgique – 2013) a permis à Anderlecht de repartir de Galatasaray avec le point du match nul en inscrivant le premier but de la rencontre (1-1).
Enfin, grâce notamment à un but de Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal – 2003) et de James Rodriguez (Colombie – 2011), le Real Madrid a balayé le FC Bâle (5-1).

During the matchday 1 of the Champion’s League, two Toulon Tournament former players were absolutely brilliant with their teams.
The first is Yacine Brahimi (France – 2010). The Algerian international marked his UEFA Champions League debut with an outstanding hat-trick. He shown all his talent with a second brilliant solo goal. Then, Yacine Brahimi completed his treble with a sumptuous curling free-kick.
The second player who was very efficient was Gervinho (Ivory Coast – 2007). The AS Roma forward was the best player on the pitch as Roma comfortably beat CSKA Moscow (5-1). Gervinho scored twice and gave an assist.
In the other games, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Netherlands – 2001) scored the equalizing goal Schalke 04 against Chelsea (1-1). In the group D, Dennis Praet (Belgium – 2013) help Anderlecht to rescue a point against Galatasaray in scoring the opening goal (1-1). To finish, Real Madrid destroyed FC Basel (5-1) thanks in particular to Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal – 2003) and James Rodriguez (Colombia – 2011) who scored both.
