Ben Woodburn, the impatient Dragon
This 29th November, Liverpool fans may have discovered the future of their club. This night, a young boy made the history. League Cup quarter finals. The Reds host Leeds to qualify for the semi-finals and are up 1-0 when Ben Woodburn decides to make a breakthrough. The striker scores the second goal of his team. The Welsh becomes the youngest goal scorer of Liverpool history at only 17 years old and 45 days and breaks Micheal Owen’s old record.
The Mersey club is convinced to have a new starlet here. But his coach Jurgen Klopp wishes to everybody calm down. “We know what Ben is capable of and what he is already able to do. […] I am really happy for him. The only problem is that I am a little bit afraid of you all [in the media]. That is the thing why I am so quiet. Maybe you can just write ‘goalscorer: Ben Woodburn’, and nothing else”.

Woodburn joined Liverpool when he was 8, in 2007. He was the best goal scorer of the U18s team at only… 15 years old ! This season, he already scored 8 goals in 14 games played with U23s. Enough to draw Klopp’s attention. The Welsh boy played 4 games in Premier League and became the third youngest Red in history to play in Premier League.
The former captain of U17s Wales squad also played with U19s Welsh team. He earned 10 calls-up and scored 3 goals with youth Wales teams. With the venue of Dragons to the Festival International Espoirs, Woodburn could came in France in May and June to follow his improvement. As a reminder, Wales, will take part to the Maurice Revello Tournament for the first time. Will Ben Woodburn make history again ?
