Bahrain will compete in the Toulon Tournament (29 May-10 June) for the first time ever. The big part of the squad will be composed of local players. One of them is Ahmed Bughammar, a young promising defender.
Ahmed Bughammar could be one of the marquee names of the Bahrain squad during the Toulon Tournament 2017. Despite his young age, the 19-year-old defender boasts a solid experience.
After clinching the Bahrain League title in 2016 with Al-Hidd, Bughammar had the opportunity to gauge itself against several teams of the continent this season as he played the Asian Champion’s League as well as the AFC Cup, the Europa League’s equivalent in Asia.
His performances with his club have confirmed the potential shown during the Asian Championship U19 in October. Bughammar helped Bahrain to reach the quarter-finals of the competition as he started 4 games and scored 1 goal.
If he maintains his form, especially during the upcoming Toulon Tournament, Bughammar could force his way back into the Bahrain senior squad. The Al-Hidd player has been called-up recently for a World Cup 2018 qualifier against North Korea (0-2) but he didn’t get on the pitch.
