The solid and elegant defender was part of the Argentina team that won the Toulon Tournament in 1975. True leader, Passarella was the perfect relay between his teammates and his famous coach César Luis Menotti, one of the greatest managers that we saw here in the south of France.
Three years after the Toulon Tournament, Daniel Passerrella guided Argentina to their first World Cup title in 1978. The Argentinian captain was impressive throughout the competition and was nicknamed “El Grand Capitan” thanks to his outstanding performances.
And it wasn’t over yet : eight years later, in 1986, the Albiceleste and Daniel Passarella have won again the World Cup.
This is obviously an historic performance : to this day, Daniel Passarella is the only one Argentinian player to boast two World Cup titles. The River Plate legend is one of the most prolific defenders ever as he has scored 178 goals in 550 games during his career. He is also one of the best players in the Toulon Tournament history…
