24 national teams are currently playing the World Cup U17 at India (October 06-October 28). During the Matchday 2, both Brazil and Iran earned their second successive win.
Group A : United States, 6 pts, Colombia 3 pts, Ghana 3 pts, India 0 pt.
After beating India in their previous game, United States clinched a 1-0 win over Ghana. The Toronto youngster Ayomide Akinola scored the winner with fifteen minutes remaining after a devastating acceleration.
Meanwhile, the hosts India can no longer qualify for the next round after their 1-2 loss against Colombia. Juan Peñaloza was the hero for the South Americans as he netted a brace while Jeakson Thaunaojam has found the net for the Asian side.
Group B : Paraguay 6 pts, Mali 3 pts, New Zealand 1 pt, Turkey 1 pt.
Paraguay came from behind to clinch a crucial 4-2 win over New Zealand. Alan Rodriguez scored the opener for Paraguay but the unfortunate captain Alexis Duare netted…two own goals for New Zealand ! However, the South Americans’ pressure in the second half turned the game back their way as Anibal Vega scored a brace. Blas Armoa got also his name on the scoresheet in the last minutes of the game.
Few hours before, Mali earned a deserved win against Turkey (3-0). The Africains won the game thanks to goals from Djemoussa Traoré, Lassana N’Diaye and Fode Konaté.
Group C : Iran 6 pts, Germany 3 pts, Costa Rica 1 pt, Guinea 1 pt.
Iran booked their place in the next round of this World Cup after an impressive 4-0 win over Germany. Younes Delfi starred as he netted a brace in the first half. Then, the Asian side found the net twice in the second goal thanks to Allahyar Sayyad and Vahid Namdari.
In the other game of the group, Costa Rica shared the spoils with Guinea (2-2). Costa Rica took the lead twice thanks to Yecxy Jarquin and Andres Gomez but Guinea secured a point as Fandje Touré and Ibrahima Soumah scored for the Africans.
Group D : Brazil 6 pts, Spain 3 pts, Niger 3 pts, North Korea 0 pt.
Brazil are qualified for the last round of 16 after their 2-0 win over North Korera. Paulinho and Lincoln were decisive again for the Seleçao as they scored the winning goals.
Meanwhile, Spain outclassed Niger (4-0) thanks to goals from Cesar and Sergio Gomez as well as a brace from FC Barcelona starlet Abel Ruiz..
Group E : France 6 pts, Japan 3 pts, Honduras 3 pts, New Caledonia 0 pt.
The competition’s top scorer Amine Gouiri (4 goals) helped France to clinch a 2-1 crucial win over Japan. The Olympique Lyonnais youngster scored twice while Taisei Miyashiro reduced the deficit for Japan.
In the other game, Honduras hammered New Caledonia (5-1). Patrick Palacios shone as he scored twice.
Group F : England 6 pts, Irak 4 pts, Mexico 1 pt, Chile, 0 pt.
England send warning to their rivals as the Young Lions earned their second win in a row against Chile (3-2). Rhain Brewster has opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick while Philip Foden doubled the lead for his side few minutes later. After assisting the England’s second goal, the Borussia Dortmund player Jordan Sancho got his name on the scoresheet as he converted a penalty. In the last minutes, Diego Lainez scored a brace but it wasn’t enough to stop England claiming victory.
Irak are in a good position after their 3-0 win over Chile. Mohamed Dawood distinguished himself again for the Asians as he netted twice to take his tally to three goals in the competition !
