In football, everything can change quickly and Hans Hateboer is a perfect example of that. After playing more than 90 Dutch league games with FC Groningen, the 23-year-old right-back (who took part in the Toulon Tournament 2015), has signed for the Serie A side Atalanta on January.
Hateboer built a strong reputation in Netherlands but he has discovered that he has everything to prove in Italy. Hateboer has endured a slow start to life with La Dea, playing only 289 minutes in Serie A between January and May. The Dutchman hasn’t adapted immediately to the Italian football and was also facing the competition of an in-form Andrea Conti, who produced a tremendous season, for the starting spot.
During the summer, the Beerta-born has chosen to stay at Atalanta in order to convince his coach Gian Pero Gasperini. A good decision from the Dutch right-back who benefited from the Andrea Conti’s departure to AC Milan (for around €25M) to force his way into the starting XI.
After struggling for playing time, Hateboer is now one of the Atlanta most used players as he started 15 games in all competition in this current campaign.
