Several Sud Ladies Cup graduates have been involved in transfer deals over the last weeks notably through the NWSL Draft which allowed several youngsters to sign for a club from the prestigious North American league. Recap.

Alison Gonzalez (Club America)

The 19-year-old striker enjoyed a thrilling 2021 year. In addition to establishing herself as a regular starter for her national team over the last twelve months, the Mexico international (10 caps, 3 goals) has been as well in a stunning form for Atlas FC. She has been rewarded by the observers as she has been included in both CONCACAF Team of the Year and IFFFHS’s U20 World Team of The Year.

Unsurprisingly, the Sud Ladies Cup 2019 graduate has attracted interest from several clubs and the Mexican league all time third top scorer eventually decided to continue her career with Club America. She leaves Atlas FC after becoming the club’s all time top scorer with 72 goals netted in 100 fixtures.

Naomi Girma (San Diego Wave FC)

For the second year in a row, a Sud Ladies Cup 2018 winner has been selected as the first overall pick in the NWSL Draft. In 2021, Sophia Smith has been picked first in the draft by Portland Thorns. In 2022, Naomi Girma was taken first overall by San Diego Wave FC, a new franchise set to make its debut in the league this year.

“She has a very bright future as a player with her outstanding technical ability and game understanding. Her character, leadership and professionalism will mean her transition into the professional game will be seamless”, said Wave FC coach Casey Stoney.

Jaelin Howell & Savannah DeMelo (Racing Louisville FC)

NWSL young franchise Racing Louisville FC picked two Sud Ladies Cup 2018 winners during the Draft in order to strengthen its squad. Jaelin Howell and Savannah DeMelo have been selected respectively at No. 2  and No. 4 in the 2022 NWSL College Draft by Racing Louisville FC.

After shining at the youth level, notably with the USA national team, Howell and DeMelo have now to meet the expectations at the senior level in one of the best leagues in the world.

Taryn Torres (Gotham FC)

NWSL 2021 quarter-finalist Gotham FC brought some fresh blood in its squad by signing Taryn Torres during the NWSL Draft.

The Sud Ladies Cup 2018 winner will reinforce the midfield of the franchise representing New Jersey and New York.

Kiara Pickett (North Carolina Courage)

Another Sud Ladies Cup 2018 winner made the headlines over the last weeks. After playing her first season in the NWSL with Kansas City Current last year, Pickett has joined recently North Carolina Courage.
